You were not born average.
When you were a child, ideas came easily. You imagined without limits. You asked questions. You trusted your instincts. You did not worry about being wrong.
Studies once showed that most young children score very high in creative thinking. But when the same test is given to adults, the scores drop sharply.
What changed?
It was not your intelligence. It was your environment.
As you grew up, you were taught to follow rules. You were told to stop daydreaming. You learned to look for the “right” answer instead of exploring new ones. Over time, you began to filter your thoughts. You stopped saying what first came to mind.
Then adult life added pressure.
Deadlines. Bills. Responsibilities. News. Noise.
Your brain adjusted to handle stress. It shifted into what scientists call a survival state. In this state, your mind moves fast. It scans for problems. It tries to protect you.
This state is helpful when there is danger. But it is not helpful for creativity or big thinking.
When you stay in survival mode for too long, something important fades. You begin to doubt your ideas. You overthink simple choices. You feel stuck.
But nothing inside you is broken.
Your brain still has the same ability it always had. It just needs a different state.
Deep inside each brain cell are tiny structures called microtubules. Scientists once thought they only helped hold cells together. Now some researchers believe they may help shape how we think and feel.
When the brain is calm and steady, these structures seem to work in harmony. When this happens, people often feel clear, focused, and creative. They enter what many call “flow.”
Children enter this state often. Adults rarely do.
The difference is not talent. It is noise.
Modern life keeps the nervous system tense. And tension blocks flow.
The good news is this: the brain can change.
When you slow down your breathing, when you step away from constant input, when you give yourself quiet time, your nervous system begins to relax. And when it relaxes, clarity can return.
You do not need to become someone new.
You only need to remove the noise that covered your natural signal.
Your genius was not lost.
It was muted.
And it can be heard again.
